GE Healthcare Japan to begin offering data hosting service for medical images.
PACS utilizes data storage equipment from SoftBank Telecom and allows users to store CT, MRI, and PET data outside of their own facilities. PACS will be available in Japan beginning in October, 2011.
Olympus acquires Spirus Medical, Inc.
Through its US-based consolidated subsidiary Gyrus ACMI, Olympus has reached an agreement to acquire endoscope insertion device manufacturer Spirus Medical, Inc.
Omron signs exclusive pact with Cardiac Science
Omron Healthcare, Inc. announces exclusive sales agreement with Cardiac Science. The first product to hit Japan will be the Powerheart AED G3 HDF-3000.
Latest Terumo contribution to diabetes market
Terumo releases Japan’s first blood sugar monitoring data transfer system. The device allows users to take a blood sample from a patient and scan a barcode located on the patient’s wristband. The measurement is automatically sent to a patient-specific electronic health record.
New Covidien device
Covidien Japan to begin sale of the LigaSureTM Small Jaw in Japan.
New Roche device
Roche Diagnostics releases next generation sequencing system GS FLX+.
The GS FLX+ System, which builds upon the technology of the GS FLX System, will allow sequencing reads of up to 1,000 bp. This represents double the read length possible with the GS FLX System.
Edwards valve approval
Edwards Lifesciences receives PMDA approval of Magna Ease TFX aortic valve.
The Magna Ease TFX aortic valve, which has been in use in Europe and North America since 2007, was officially approved on July 17th. Edwards Lifesciences will begin sales throughout Japan this September.
New Beckman device
Beckman Coulter launches “Four in One” Allegra X-30 Series of compact, multi-purpose centrifuges. The series includes the Allegra X-30 (without cooling feature) and Allegra X-30R (with cooling feature).

BD Japan announces release of the BDTM P100 collection tube for blood protein storage.
New Endoscopy system from Olympus
Olympus announces launch of VISERA ELITE endoscopy video support system. The VISERA ELITE system and the ENDOEYE FLEX curved-tip videoscope LTF-S190-5 for abdominal and thoracic use will be available at the beginning of October, 2011.
